AI chatbots for customer support — the complete guide (2026)

Guides4 min readPublished June 23, 2026

What an AI chatbot for customer support is, how it works, what it solves and what it doesn't, how to deploy it and what it costs. A practical guide for small businesses and e-shops.

What is an AI chatbot for customer support

An AI chatbot for customer support is a virtual assistant on your website that automatically answers customer questions — 24/7, in their language — based on your own content. Unlike older "scripted" bots with fixed buttons, it understands natural language and finds answers in your documents, on your website and in your product data, not on the general internet.

The goal isn't to replace people, but to handle the repetitive questions so your team can focus on the harder cases. It suits small businesses, e-shops and service providers alike — anywhere the same questions keep coming up.

How it works (the knowledge base)

  1. You train it on your sources — upload documents (PDF, DOCX…), let it crawl your website, optionally connect a product feed.
  2. A knowledge base is built. When a customer asks, the bot finds the relevant passages and composes an answer in natural language.
  3. That's why it answers accurately about your business — your return windows, shipping, product specs — instead of generic platitudes.

This approach (retrieve relevant content, then generate an answer) is technically called RAG. What matters for you is one thing: the bot answers from your materials, so it pays to keep them up to date.

What an AI chatbot solves

A large share of support questions repeat, and you already have the answer somewhere:

  • returns and complaints, shipping and delivery,
  • product parameters and specifications,
  • payment methods, opening hours, terms and conditions.

You don't have to be an e-shop — for a small business or a service provider the bot will just as happily answer your opening hours, the services you offer, prices or how to book. We cover a concrete e-commerce example in Getting Started with AI Chatbots.

What the chatbot won't solve — and operator takeover

Let's be fair: the bot won't handle everything on its own.

  • Questions tied to a specific order ("where's my parcel?") need an integration with your order system — Breezaro doesn't do that.
  • For anything more complex, a live operator can take over the conversation at any time (available from the Pro plan and during the trial). They see the full history and continue seamlessly.

When several people handle support, teams and the activity overview come in handy — who's online, which conversation they're handling, and what's happening with the account.

Channels — where the chatbot answers

  • Web widget — the core; you paste one line of JavaScript just before </body>.
  • WhatsApp — coming soon.
  • Social media (Instagram/Facebook) — for now we index their content into the knowledge base; DM replies are on our roadmap and coming soon.

Multilingual

The bot answers automatically in the visitor's language — whether they write in Czech, Slovak, English or German. For businesses with clients in several countries that means one knowledge base and answers in the customer's language with no extra work.

What an AI chatbot costs

Pricing varies by model (number of conversations, credits, add-ons). Breezaro starts at 8.99 US$ a month (the Basic plan) and has a 30-day trial at the Pro level, so you can try everything with no commitment.

How prices and features compare with the competition is covered in Breezaro vs Chatbase and Breezaro vs Smartsupp. Current plans are on our pricing page.

How to deploy an AI chatbot step by step

  1. Create a bot — give it a name, a short description of your business and a default language.
  2. Add content — upload documents (terms, FAQs, return policy), enter your website URL to crawl, optionally a product feed.
  3. Embed the widget — copy one line of JavaScript into your site template.
  4. Test it — open your site in an incognito window and ask the three most common questions.

You can do the whole basic setup yourself, without a developer, usually in under an hour.

FAQ

Will an AI chatbot replace human support? No. It's the first line for routine questions; complex cases are taken over by an operator.

What does the chatbot answer from? From your materials — documents, your website and a product feed — not from the general internet.

Does it speak my language? Yes, it answers in the language the visitor writes in.

How long does deployment take? You can do the basic setup in under an hour, without a developer.

What if the chatbot doesn't know the answer? A live operator can take over. You then add the missing content to the knowledge base and next time the bot answers on its own.

An AI chatbot for customer support is no magic — it's the first line that handles the routine, so your people can focus on the work that truly adds value.
